Welcome to Innerleithen Living

Innerleithen Living is an online hub celebrating all that’s best about living in Innerleithen and the Scottish Borders. Whether you live or work here, or are visiting the area, you’ll find lots of insider tips about where to eat, shop, and explore, as well as news and stories about what’s happening in the Innerleithen area.


Innerleithen lies between Peebles and Galashiels. Innerleithen has an extremely rich history as the town has been occupied since Roman Times. There are many Roman remains that highlight the town’s historic history.

Aside from the Roman remains, there are many other fantastic attractions that Innerleithen presents, for example, the excellent nine hole golf course allows for a challenging and exciting game of golf.

Innerleithen’s sublime surroundings enable everyone to enjoy cycles and walks through the beautiful countryside. Innerleithen is also home to Glentress which features many enthralling bike trails which are inclusive for people of all ages.

One of the main events of Innerleithen is the Border Games which has been hosted in the town since 1827 and this features many exhilarating game events.

Overall Innerleithen is a fantastic place for tourists to come and visit as it also includes many fantastic hotels, restaurants and bars. Therefore, due to the historic and exciting nature of Innerleithen, it is a must visit.


Scottish Borders Living-9594Exploring the Scottish Borders Region

Innerleithen is located towards the central part of the region and is on the A72 between Galashiels and Peebles.

There are many towns within easy reach from Innerleithen including, Galashiels, Peebles, Selkirk, and Melrose. Closer to Innerleithen are villages including Walkerburn and Cardrona.

Places of interest within 45 minutes include the Wallace Statue near Bemersyde, Smailholm Tower – between St. Boswells and Kelso and Neidpath Castle, just outside of Peebles.


Jedburgh 3The Four Abbeys of the Scottish Borders

The Scottish Borders has four magnificent ruined abbeys to explore. These are located at Melrose (17 miles), Dryburgh (24 miles), Kelso (32 miles) and Jedburgh (30 miles).  There are also some interesting places to visit on route to each of the abbeys, so plan your trip and take in some extra sights.

Edinburgh-2257Visiting Edinburgh

Innerleithen is just over an hour from Edinburgh (29 miles) and if you’re looking to visit the city to explore, watch a show or to see the world renowned, Edinburgh Military Tattoo, it’s easy to get to.

If you want to go by train, then you can travel to Galashiels (12 miles) and get the new Borders Waverley train to Edinburgh. Trains run every half hour and the last train leaving Edinburgh is just before midnight.
